Light up Life

What Matters is proud to support Herbie Kawuma and his work through Light Up Life Foundations in Uganda. Herbie and his team of dedicated volunteers run a “Maisha Home” for children in the slums of Kampala, host the “Light up Football (soccer) Academy” and fund a school named the Front Royal Light up Academy in the remote village of Bunyade, and they provide educational and financial support to countless children. To contribute, visit https://whatmattersw2.com/donate/ and select the area you’d like to be a part of sustaining in the drop down window!  To learn more about Light up Life click HERE for a short biography of Herbie’s life and HERE for a longer version written by Beth.  To see heartwarming posts and videos please visit the WHAT MATTERS/Light up Life Fan Page on Facebook via the link below!

Fundraising Campaign!

Check out the current fundraising campaign for the addition/completion of  the “Front Royal Light Up Academy” primary school in the remote village of Bunyade in Uganda!

The community of Bunyade voted to name the school after Beth’s hometown and Light up Life to thank them and their supporters for making their dream of a beautiful school a reality.  The project started with a $5k match Beth launched in December 2017 and continued with donations and extensive contributions made by Herbie Kawuma and through Beth’s real estate business.  Though the school is standing and Beth contributed her pledged match (and also funded much-needed pit latrines for the school), money is still needed for an addition since 200+ children now attend the school which already has a superb reputation!

It needs to expand to accommodate the kids as they age–our dream is to finish construction of two new classrooms each year so that those graduating from the existing grades have  a place to continue to thrive until they are in 8th grade (which is the grade the closest decent existing school starts).
